Room 2 · Exhibits

American Heritage

The documents and artifacts that shaped the country.

Lincoln's hat. Signatures from the Founders. The men who won the Second World War. This room moves from the Revolution through the twentieth century, with original documents and authenticated artifacts at every turn. Most visitors rush past it on the way to Hollywood — and then come back and stand in it for twenty minutes.

Featured Artifacts

Abraham Lincoln's Personal Stovepipe Hat

Abraham Lincoln's Personal Stovepipe Hat

One of Lincoln's actual stovepipe hats, displayed in a standing glass case. This is the artifact most visitors mention when they describe the museum to someone else. See it before you leave the room — it's easy to walk past on the way to the documents.

Malcolm X & Martin Luther King Jr. — Signed Together

Malcolm X & Martin Luther King Jr. — Signed Together

A single page bearing the signatures of both men. Two of the most significant figures in American history, on the same piece of paper. This is one of the most quietly powerful things in the museum.

John Hancock Signed Congressional Document, 1776

John Hancock Signed Congressional Document, 1776

Instructions to commanders of private warships, dated April 3, 1776 — signed by John Hancock as President of the Continental Congress. This document predates the Declaration of Independence. The signature is original and authenticated.

Original 1792 Revolutionary War Payment Document

A Comptroller's Office payment certificate dated July 3, 1792, certifying payment from funds appropriated for the liquidated debt of the State of Connecticut. An original document from the founding era, not a reproduction.

Also in this room: signatures from both sides of the Civil War — Lee, Grant, Lincoln, and Stonewall Jackson on the same walls. Documents signed by Jefferson, Washington, and Franklin. Apollo 11. The Wright Brothers and Amelia Earhart. Davy Crockett. And more than you'll get through in one visit.

The Collection

Built over 30 years. Open now.

This is not an institutional collection. Every piece in this museum was found, authenticated, and acquired by Jason and Nicol Grossman over three decades of collecting. There is no donation wall, no corporate sponsor. Just two people who love American history and culture, and built something remarkable with it.
